Privacy Policy
How HomeofIndia collects, uses, shares, protects, retains and manages personal data across the rental-property platform.
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use HomeofIndia, we may collect your name, email address, mobile number, account and profile details, OTP/verification status, property-listing information and photographs, booking activity, favorites, support and grievance requests, reports, property-alert preferences, messages, device/browser information, IP address, login/security records, and KYC/verification information such as identity details and documents submitted for verification.
Administrative and security records may include actions taken by authorised staff, affected account or listing identifiers, timestamps, request information, IP address, browser/user-agent information and before/after values where appropriate. Sensitive secrets such as passwords, OTP values, authentication tokens and payment credentials should not be intentionally stored in audit logs.
2. Why we use information
We use personal data to create and secure accounts; verify users; publish, review and manage listings; enable search, favorites, booking requests and messaging; provide property alerts where you choose them; provide support; investigate reports and grievances; prevent fraud and abuse; investigate security incidents; administer the platform; maintain audit and compliance records; enforce platform rules; and comply with applicable legal obligations.
3. KYC and verification
KYC and verification information is used for identity checks, account safety and fraud prevention. KYC documents are not intended for public display. Access should be restricted to authorised personnel and necessary verification/service providers. We aim to collect and retain only verification information reasonably necessary for the applicable purpose. See KYC Privacy Notice.
4. Location, device and login-security information
HomeofIndia may derive an approximate location from an IP address for account security, fraud prevention and login-history purposes. IP-based location is an estimate and may reflect an ISP, mobile-network gateway, proxy or VPN rather than your actual physical location.
If browser/device geolocation is offered, more precise location information will be requested through browser/device permission controls. You may allow or deny that request. Denying precise-location permission does not necessarily prevent collection of an IP address or use of an approximate IP-derived location for legitimate security purposes.
5. Messages and moderation records
HomeofIndia processes messages as necessary to provide Owner–Tenant and support communication features. Message metadata such as sender/receiver identifiers, property reference, read status and timestamps may be used for delivery, support, abuse prevention and platform administration. Where reports, safety concerns or legal obligations require review, authorised personnel may access relevant information under appropriate access controls.
6. Property alerts and communications
If you enable property alerts, we may process your account identifier, email address, selected cities and alert settings to send matching listing notifications. Alerts should be optional and may be disabled or unsubscribed. Where consent is relied upon, we may retain records of the consent choice, version and time needed to demonstrate and manage that choice. See Property Alerts & Email Policy.
7. Payments between users and optional paid services
HomeofIndia currently does not process rent, security deposits or other rental payments between Owners and Tenants. User-to-user payments take place outside HomeofIndia unless a specific service expressly states otherwise. Never share a UPI PIN, card PIN, password or OTP with another user.
If optional paid or premium platform services are introduced, payment providers may process transaction information under their own terms and privacy practices. HomeofIndia should not intentionally store full card credentials, UPI PINs or similar authentication secrets.
8. Sharing and service providers
We may share data with service providers that support hosting, email/communications, OTP delivery, security, analytics where enabled, verification, support and other platform operations, subject to appropriate contractual or technical safeguards. We may also disclose information when required by applicable law, lawful process or where reasonably necessary to protect users, rights and platform security.
9. Public listing information
Information intentionally submitted for a public property listing, such as property description, rent, locality/location and listing photographs, may be publicly visible. Owners should not place unnecessary identity-document information, personal secrets or confidential information in public listing fields or photographs.
10. Authorised staff and audit logs
Access to administrative information should be role-based and limited to authorised personnel with a business need. HomeofIndia may maintain audit logs recording important administrative, account, listing, verification, fraud, security and system actions. These records support accountability, investigation, platform security and compliance. Audit access should itself be restricted and monitored.
11. Retention
Different categories of data may have different retention periods. We aim to retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, security and fraud-prevention needs, dispute handling, account administration and applicable legal requirements. When data is no longer required, it should be deleted or anonymised where appropriate. See Data Retention Policy.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal data, including authentication controls, role-based administrative access, restricted KYC-document access, security logging, monitoring and access review. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Users should protect credentials and report suspicious activity promptly.
13. Your choices and privacy requests
Subject to applicable law and the commencement/applicability of relevant provisions, you may have rights or choices concerning access/information, correction or updating, consent withdrawal where consent is the basis of processing, deletion/erasure where applicable, and grievance redressal.
Where a feature is optional, such as property-alert email, you can use the available settings or unsubscribe method to stop future alerts. Withdrawal does not necessarily require deletion of records that HomeofIndia is lawfully required or permitted to retain for another purpose.
14. Account deletion
Account deletion requests may require identity or account verification. Depending on the request and applicable requirements, account/profile data may be deleted or anonymised and access to listings, bookings, messages, favorites and alert settings may end. Limited records may be retained for legal obligations, fraud prevention, security, disputes or enforcement. See Account Deletion.
15. Children
HomeofIndia is intended for persons legally capable of using the relevant rental-property services and entering into the relevant transactions. If HomeofIndia begins offering services to children or knowingly processes children’s personal data, additional safeguards and legal requirements may apply and should be implemented before such processing.
16. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in features, processing practices or legal requirements. We will publish the updated version and effective date and provide additional notice or obtain consent where required for a material change.
